This year’s Academic Forum was the first physical meeting of the BRICS Academic Forum after the COVID-19 pandemic and took place over four days, from 14-17 May 2023, at the Century City Conference Centre, Cape Town. The BRICS Academic Forum, in line with the BRICS cooperation, responded to the needs and demands of the larger international community, particularly regarding growth, sustainable development and inclusion of the global South in the world system. As such, the theme of the 15th BRICS Academic Forum was BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism. The five priorities under this theme are:
∙ Developing a partnership towards an equitable, Just Transition
∙ Transforming Education and Skills Development for the Future
∙ Unlocking Opportunities through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement
∙ Strengthening Post-Pandemic Socio-Economic Recovery and the Attainment of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development
Strengthening Multilateralism, including Working Toward Real Reform of Global Governance Institutions and Strengthening the Meaningful Participation of Women in Peace Processes.
