Just Energy Transition and BRICS, from a BRICS perspective: Developing a partnership towards an Equitable Just Transition

On the 25 April the SABTT convened a roundtable workshop, the first in a series of events on the 2023 BRICS calendar. The roundtable focused on one of South Africa’s thematic priorities for its 2023 BRICS Presidency, titled Just Energy Transition and BRICS, from a BRICS perspective: Developing a partnership towards an Equitable Just Transition.

The event included panellists from the current five BRICS member countries, including a respondent, Professor Fulu Netswera, from the Durban University of Technology. Moderated by Ms Auriel Niemack from the SABTT, panel experts included Prof Sandra Paulsen from the Institute for applied Economic Analysis in Brazil, a recorded presentation from Prof Leonid Grigoryev, HSE University (Russia), Mr Promit Mookherjee from the Observer Research Foundation in India, Prof Jianguo Liu, from China’s Centre for International Energy Collaboration of Energy Research Institute (ERI), and Ms Elizabeth Sidiropoulos from the South African Institute of International Affairs.
