Last Updated: 5 December 2023

The BRICS Foreign Affairs, Institutional Development, and Global Governance sector refers to the strategic coordination among the BRICS countries, aimed at strengthening political dialogue, enhancing the institutional coherence of the BRICS partnership, and promoting a more inclusive, representative, and equitable global governance system.

This cooperation is led by the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, and includes regular high-level consultations, sherpa/sous-sherpa mechanisms, and institutional strengthening efforts. It focuses on multilateralism, reform of international institutions (such as the UN, IMF, and World Bank), peace and security, international law, and the role of the Global South in shaping global norms and decision-making.

The BRICS Foreign Affairs, Institutional Development, and Global Governance sector plays a foundational role in consolidating the BRICS partnership, advancing shared interests on the global stage, and contributing to a balanced, rules-based international order grounded in mutual respect, sovereignty, and cooperation.
